Creating atmosphere

A completely new project for me this week, I was asked by a friend of mine who is a member of a rock music band if I would like to do some photographs for their new website. The brief was to produce a set of images with a ‘gritty’ feel of the band and individual band profile images. The name of the band is ‘fallout’ so we wanted a nuclear bunker type feel for the images. We found a local canal bridge to emulate this location and I shot the images in 16:9 format as the final images will be used full screen on a website. For the band images I opted for the Kowa 8.5mm lens – the super-wide angle lens proved to be very effective in creating the effect that the band wanted. The field of view transformed the bridge in to a feeling of a bunker with the arch sweeping overhead. Some Photoshop work brought out the gritty feel of the brickwork and I airbrushed the band’s logo on to wall for more atmosphere. After the super wide-angle shots, I switched to the Kowa 12mm lens for individual band member images. The lens captured amazing detail and I was able to create images for each band member with the same bunker effect. Photoshop was once again used to enhance the images with a vignetting effect and band member profile names airbrushed on to the images  – below is a selection of photographs from the shoot.   bannd-shot1
