Newborough, on the Island of Anglesey holds a very special place in my heart. I visit it as often as I can and to see it at sunset is simply breath-taking. If you want to photograph Newborough – for me it has to be at sunset. In the day, the sun sits directly behind the lighthouse on Llanddwyn Island, making it difficult to get a nice image, but wait a few hours and you are rewarded with a stunning sunset to the west, casting a purple/pink hew to the mountains of Snowdonia on the Welsh mainland and bathing the lighthouse in warm light.
A word of warning though – be sure to check the tide times! Llanddwyn Island is cut off from the beach at high tide and on my last visit I had to wade thigh deep to get back to dry land. Another 15 minutes and I think I would have been stuck for the night. On this particular evening there was a large harvest moon, it added so much atmosphere to the night. One of those nights you treasure for a long time.
